History of the Lawrenceville House Tour

In 1988 the Lawrenceville Historical Society announced plans for the first neighborhood house tour. There were doubters who said that nobody would pay to come to Lawrenceville. A little over 80 people bought tickets for that event. It was nowhere near the number many other communities drew, but the feedback was terrific. Not a week passed when the organization was being asked when the next house tour would take place.

With each passing house tour, the number of participants grew. By 1993 there were almost 400 participants coming from seven states. Two women flew in from California. It was during this event that people began to notice in mass that the neighborhood had so much to offer. There were unique shops, neat restaurants, churches, parks, great real estate at terrific prices and so much more. People began to buy the old homes and fix them.

During Lawrenceville’s last house tour the event drew more than 600 partakers. By this time the trend to buy the lovely old buildings has picked up steam and continues to do so. You’ll see some shining examples of what’s happening in Lawrenceville today as you go on your tour. You’ll meet some of the community’s newcomers and lifelong residents. Folks here are proud of their neighborhood, its rich history and glorious buildings. We thank you for allowing us the opportunity to share this pride with you.
